Since YA readers seem to be skipping these books purely because of the assassin angle, I hope this clears it up for you.

First of all- I hate assassin books. With a capital H. I'd seen Throne of Glass on the shelves of numerous book stores and shunned them as soon as I read the back. I really, truly wasn't expecting to find it enjoyable in the least. Then one day I took a shot on it...
And it was amazing.
I am an avid reader of the YA catagory. Next to all of my favourite books YA. And this one rocketed to very nearly the top of that list.
Celaena is ruthless and one of the most strongest female protagonists I have ever read in a YA book. YA books can either be, from what I've read; the girl is strong, capable of taking control of whatever's thrown at her... or she's dependant on the male or other people. There are in-betweens where it's a mix of both, but let's not get into the technicalities.
In short, Celaena is the girl you don't want to mess with unless you have a death wish. Or need for a black eye. But as she's demonstrated through the books, she's not made of stone. She feels. She can, most importantly, love. Her relationships with Dorian, the prince, and Chaol, the Captain of the guard, are beautiful. It is NOT a love triangle. Don't even go there.
We ended Throne of Glass with Celaena rightfully winning, even though she was poisoned. Also discovering some disturbing secrets along the way.
Right. Now we'll move onto Crown of Midnight.
After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king's contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.
Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king's bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she's given a task that could jeopardize everything she's come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon -- forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.
Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?
(light spoilers up ahead)
Thus begins the sequel, Crown of Midnight!
Usually, a sequel is much slower than the first book. Unfortunately, at the beginning, Crown of Midnight was a little slow, but so was Throne of Glass at the beginning. But as soon as you get through the beginning, the action truly begins. This sequel did not disappoint. Not at all. Twists and turns at every point, this book was. The ending was a shocker, to say the least. Plus the information on Celaena's past. I certainly did not expect a certain aspect about her, but I did guess just who she was.
And now... Chaolaena in Crown of Midnight
Can I start with HOT? They had such sizzling chemistry in this book, and unlike other YA books where it takes FOREVER for a couple to truly get together and find a room, Chaolaena were not one of those. I think we can attest to that from a certain scene concerning a broom cupboard. But alas, like all relationships, they do have their downs. Chaolaena certainly did, and it was squeeze my heart painful at what happened.
Next. Dorian.
Well now Dorian... aren't you in a little pickle? Your father certainly wouldn't be amused by that little secret you're hiding. But I think it's an excellent twist for a man in such a position of power to be harbouring such a world changing secret. I hope that in the next book, Dorian uses his not so little secret to change the kingdom.
As to the next book... I truly cannot wait. These books radically changed my views on assassin books, and have rocketed up my list of favourite books to the top five. They were full of humour, romance, adventure and betrayal... just everything really. There was cute and sexy. Dark and bloody. Thank you for these books Sarah. I will never forget them, and I hope people will read and enjoy these books as much as I have.
These books in two GIFs?
OKAY OKAY. SO I MADE IT THREE. TWO WASN'T ENOUGH.
